SUMMARY:Medical Outreach
DESCRIPTION:A successful medical outreach program was conducted on Saturday 21st March\, 2026 at Victoria Health Center\, providing essential eye testing and laboratory services to residents of Victoria and surrounding communities. The initiative\, organized by Global Peace Chain Guyana\, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health aimed to address critical health needs and promote early detection of diseases. \nDuring the event\, 30 individuals received comprehensive eye examinations\, including vision screening\, refraction\, and general eye health assessments. 30 participants also benefited from vital laboratory tests\, such as complete blood count\, liver function\, kidney function\, lipid profile\, prostate specific antigen\, urine analysis & HbA1c. The outreach team comprised dedicated medical professionals\,               and lab technicians\, who worked tirelessly to ensure quality care. \nThis outreach was a part of observing World Down Syndrome Day and International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination\, which is observed on March 21 each year. \n

DESCRIPTION:A recent community engagement initiative on 25th March\, 2026\, within the Woodley Park Community\, West Coast Berbice\, has brought residents together to voice pressing issues impacting their daily lives. Several key themes emerged from the discussions. A significant concern was the barriers to employment and essential services\, as many residents stated that why employment is available the location too far\, which will cause them to travel 4 to 5 hours daily. Safety was another prevalent topic\, with residents expressing desires for increased police presence and better street lighting in certain neighborhoods. \nFurthermore\, the condition of local parks and recreational facilities was highlighted. Residents called for greater investment in maintenance and the creation of more family-friendly spaces. Finally\, concerns about affordable housing and rising living costs were a recurring point\, underscoring the need for sustainable solutions to ensure the community remains accessible to all.

DESCRIPTION:  \nGuyana officially launched its 60th Independence Diamond Jubilee celebrations at the Railway Courtyard. Country Director Alex Dane Fraser attended this milestone under the theme “Homecoming” as the nation celebrates together\, on Thursday 2nd April\, 2026. A key highlight of the celebrations is the return of the Guyana Festival\, set for May 15–17 at the Guyana National Stadium. The event will feature heritage villages representing Guyana’s six races\, along with cultural showcases\, culinary experiences\, and nightly entertainment. \n        \nThe national calendar also includes “Taste of Guyana\,” a culinary showcase celebrating local cuisine\, heritage site tours\, and the return of signature events that extend beyond the coast\, including regional food festivals\, lakeside camping activities\, and riverine community showcases. \n  \n“This is a moment to reflect on our achievements in nation building\, democracy\, education\, infrastructure\, and economic development\, and to recognise the value that stands out among the select nations that have reached this rare and distinguished milestone\,” Prime Minister Brig.
